Diabetic Dietary Recommendations Healthy Choice For Most Americans
Since type two diabetes (once referred to as “adult onset”) is on the rise, even in children, eating healthy foods to maintain health is of utmost importance.
Diets that help avoid this type of diabetes are also beneficial to people not at risk for diabetes. It is simply avoiding empty calories, refined carbohydrates, and high sugar and foods high in saturated fats.
Eating foods high in whole grains, such as brown rice and whole wheat bread is good for the body. Add fresh vegetables and fruits, low fat protein such as fish and chicken or beans, and you can make healthy nutritious satisfying different meals for at least a week. Top off with salad greens with healthy olive oil and vinegar and you’ve rounded out a healthy meal that is filling and satisfying.
The word “diet” can be scary to some people but moderation is the key. Enjoying a cookie or two that is free or very low in saturated or trans fat is fine for a snack with a glass of low fat milk, as would be a similar ice cream treat.
